A four-storey building collapsed early Thursday morning in the Jardim Vitoria neighbourhood, leaving multiple residents trapped and several injured. According to the Minas Gerais Fire Department, approximately 29 people were inside at the time, including residents and staff of a small beauty clinic located in the building.

Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene. Rescue teams have already pulled several survivors from the rubble, and eight people were taken to hospital. Among them was a two-year-old child, rescued conscious and in stable condition. Others managed to escape with assistance from neighbours before firefighters arrived.

More than 40 firefighters, supported by rescue dogs and specialised equipment, continue to search for those believed to be trapped. The cause of the collapse remains unknown. Officials have confirmed that the building had the required permits, but a full investigation will commence once rescue operations conclude.

The tragic incident underscores the urgent need for careful monitoring of building safety, particularly in mixed-use structures housing both residential units and businesses. Authorities have urged residents to stay clear of the area while rescue efforts continue.
