Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has reassured the club and fans of his dedication following recent comments that raised questions about his future at Stamford Bridge. The Argentina international, who joined the Blues in 2023 for a then-British record £107 million ($143 million), spoke to manager Liam Rosenior on Thursday about his commitment to the team.

Fernandez’s remarks came shortly after Chelsea’s 3-0 home defeat to reigning Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, which saw the Blues exit the competition with an 8-2 aggregate loss in the round of 16. Speaking to a broadcaster, Fernandez had hinted that the final eight Premier League games and the remainder of Chelsea’s FA Cup campaign could be his last for the west London club.

However, Rosenior, who held an in-depth conversation with the 25-year-old midfielder, emphasized that there were no concerns regarding Fernandez’s commitment.

“I had a great conversation with Enzo at length this morning at the training ground,” Rosenior said. “Not just about the comments, but the future and how much we want to win the coming games. He made it really clear to me how happy he is here, how much he wants to win for the team, and how passionate he is for this football club.”

Rosenior also clarified that Fernandez’s earlier comments were misinterpreted due to translation and emotion, stressing that the midfielder is fully committed to Chelsea.

Off the field, Chelsea have addressed a recent breach regarding leaked team selections ahead of the PSG games. Rosenior confirmed the club has identified the source and assured that the leak was not motivated by malice.

On the injury front, Rosenior provided updates on the squad’s fitness. Defender Trevoh Chalobah, who sustained an ankle injury against PSG, is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks. Meanwhile, captain Reece James suffered a hamstring issue prior to Tuesday’s match but is not seriously injured, though he will miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Everton.

Chelsea now turn their attention to finishing the season strongly in domestic competitions, with Fernandez poised to remain a key figure in their campaign.
