Mexican military and police have apprehended Alejandro Rosales Castillo, a 27-year-old American wanted in connection with the 2016 murder of Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le in Charlotte, North Carolina. The FBI had previously listed Castillo among its 10 most wanted fugitives.
Authorities captured Castillo on Friday in Pachuca, about 50 miles northeast of Mexico City. He faces charges in the United States including first-degree murder, armed robbery, vehicle theft, and kidnapping. Mexico’s Security Secretary, Omar Garcia Harfuch, confirmed that Castillo was brought before public prosecutors to begin legal proceedings.
According to US reports, Castillo had a brief relationship with the victim, who was 23 at the time, and allegedly borrowed money from her. Investigators say she disappeared after meeting him at a Charlotte gas station, where he allegedly forced her to withdraw her savings before taking her to a wooded area and fatally shooting her.
The FBI had offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to Castillo’s capture. “Law enforcement agents worked countless hours to develop leads to locate Castillo, ultimately uncovering where he has been hiding the past several years,” the agency said.
Castillo’s arrest marks a significant step toward justice for the victim and underscores international cooperation in pursuing fugitives across borders.
