Senator Khalwale calls on Ruto to sack Kuria, Chirchir and economic advisors

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale now wants President William Ruto to fire his two cabinet secretaries and economic adviser over soaring fuel costs.

Speaking in Kakamega on Saturday, Khalwale said it was time for Ruto to fire Trade CS Moses Kuria, his energy counterpart Davis Chirchir, and his economic advisers. David Ndii, Mohammed Hassan, and Nancy Laibuni are members of the President's Council of Economic Advisers.

Khalwale blamed the parties for the recent increase in fuel prices to record highs of Ksh211.64 for Super Petrol, Ksh201 for Diesel, and Ksh202.13 for Kerosene per liter in Nairobi.

The senator said he was elected to represent the people and therefore expected the SCs and economic advisors to serve and protect Kenyan citizens from any adverse economic situations. "I want to tell you that the people you created have gotten you into serious trouble. The Minister of Trade and Energy and your economic advisers need to tell the Kenyan people what they mean. Fire these people to get fuel prices down,” , said Khalwale.

Among those who rejected criticism from Kenyans was CS Kuria himself, who said the increase in fuel prices is a global problem, not just affecting Kenya.

“Global crude oil prices are on the rise. For planning purposes, it is expected that pump prices will increase by Ksh 10 per month until February,” Kuria posted on his X account.

Appearing before the energy committee of the National Assembly on Friday, CS Chirchir said the government cannot control the fuel surge as it is a global challenge.

“We work with a number of governments and suppliers of these products. We may face even more difficult times. There's not much we can do about this. Unfortunately, we don't have our own products,” Chirchir told parliamentarians.
