Siaya: Police officer escorting KCSE papers ambushed, killed
20/11/2023 18:50 in National News

A policeman who was delivering KCSE exam papers to Mahero High School in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, died on Monday morning.

The officer was with a colleague and the head of the company when unknown criminals ambushed them with unusual weapons. According to eyewitnesses led by Joachim Kombo, the police had just taken them from the school bus to take the exam at the Siaya county seat, but they were a few metres away because the bus could not reach the school because of poverty, the situation, and the roads.

As the company director ran to safety, the assailants killed one police officer and injured the other. The assailants fired at the police before fleeing.

Security personnel rushed to the scene and took the injured officer to the Siaya County Referral Hospital for treatment. The body of the deceased was taken to the hospital mortuary.

Siaya Commissioner Julius Otieno and Regional Police Commissioner Cleti Kimaiyo, who led the security forces, rushed to the scene and took the injured officer to a referral hospital from Siaya County, where he is receiving treatment.

While acknowledging the incident, Siaya County Commissioner Julius Otieno called for patience as investigations begin on the matter to identify the attackers and what their motive might be, but he called on the public to give information that will lead to their arrest.

The KCSE One Geography exam that will be held at the school is done right after the teacher manages to reach the school. Siaya County Commissioner Robert Ng'etich assured that security will be enhanced to ensure that all remaining documents are completed without interruption.
