The National Dialogue Committee now says it will conclude its work in two days and present the report to President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga on Saturday.
The dialogue team on Wednesday held a final meeting with Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u in a closed-door session that the committee said was meant to get as much information as possible on the status of the economy.
The meeting with the CS Ndung’u was also aimed at trying to build consensus on proposals to repeal sections of the Finance Act, 2023 including scrapping the 1.5% housing levy.
The committee, chaired by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, says it will be working till late in the night for the next two days to ensure the report is ready by Saturday.
“We met with CS for him to tell us exactly the status of our economy...we have made progress...we can assure you that our faces are just tired but not because of the meeting today,” said Ichung’wah.
Musyoka, on his part, stated: “We are working towards agreeing on all issues but our rules of engagement also require that it is not a must we agree on all issues on the table, the most important thing is the issue of the cost of living.”
