Six people lost their lives on Wednesday night in a road crash in the Manyatta area of Taita Taveta County after a Chania Executive bus collided head-on with a trailer along the Nairobi–Mombasa highway.
How the Accident Happened
Preliminary reports indicate that the bus driver was attempting to overtake when the truck rammed into the bus, wrecking its right side before the vehicle veered off the highway.
The impact left six passengers dead on the spot, while several others sustained injuries.
Emergency Response
Injured passengers were rushed to Moi Referral Hospital in Voi for treatment. Police officers later arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin investigations into the cause of the crash.
Road Safety Concerns
The Nairobi–Mombasa highway has long been identified as a high-risk corridor due to heavy traffic volumes and frequent overtaking maneuvers. Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution, especially on stretches prone to accidents.
