Authorities have confirmed that 51-year-old Hannah Wanjiku, who was brutally killed in Kigumo, Murang’a on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, died from strangulation.
A government pathologist conducted the post-mortem at AIC Githumu Hospital mortuary, in the presence of family members and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). According to relatives, the autopsy revealed that Wanjiku was strangled with a thin wire or nylon line.
Charles Kariuki, a family member, said the pathologist indicated the murder was likely carried out by more than one person.
“The culprit was probably assisted by another person who held the deceased’s hands so she could not fight back,” Kariuki explained.
The report further noted that Wanjiku’s spine had been broken, possibly when her body was forced into a sack. She is believed to have been killed several hours before her remains were stuffed into the bag, as no blood clots were found around the back injury.
The chilling murder shocked residents after her body, packed in a sack, was delivered like a parcel in Kangari town.
Police have since arrested four suspects—including her two sons, estranged husband, and a taxi driver—who are in custody assisting investigators.
Kigumo Sub-County Police Commander Hassan Bashir assured the public that thorough investigations are underway.
“We will leave no stone unturned and anybody involved in the murder will be arrested and charged,” he said, while urging residents to share any information that could aid in the probe.
The family of the mother of six is now calling for justice, hoping the culprits will be brought to book.
