Brian Mundubile is taking Zambia’s presidential election result to court after the Electoral Commission declared Hakainde Hichilema the winner with about 60 percent of the vote. The opposition alleges irregularities, intimidation and disruptions during the election, while post-election security incidents, including the death of opposition MP Mutotwe Kafwaya, have heightened political tensions.
Residents across Seoul participated in civil defence drills involving emergency evacuations, first aid and shelter procedures as part of the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise. This year’s drills focused on emerging threats including drones, GPS disruption and cyberattacks, while some military field exercises were replaced by simulations in an effort to maintain readiness without further escalating tensions with Pyongyang.
Former Zambian cabinet minister Mutotwe Kafwaya was shot dead during a security operation at the home of opposition leader Brian Mundubile, according to police. Authorities said the raid targeted a suspected militia and resulted in 11 arrests, while Mundubile has rejected the allegations. The opposition is challenging the presidential election result, while the UN has urged Zambia to respect due process and human rights.
Liberian authorities have charged former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor with drug trafficking, money laundering, conspiracy and other offences after she was stopped at Roberts International Airport while attempting to leave the country. Three foreign nationals have also been charged in absentia as Liberia intensifies its crackdown on international drug trafficking following major cocaine seizures.
