A Nairobi woman, Leah Wanjiku, has been charged with obtaining KSh200,000 by false pretences after allegedly promising to help Alexander Kyalo Peter secure employment in Denmark. The alleged offence occurred at Absa Towers along Loita Street in Nairobi in September 2025. Wanjiku denied the charge and was released on a KSh100,000 bond. The case will be mentioned on September 22, 2026, for pre-trial directions.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned that a rapidly intensifying El Niño could become the strongest recorded since monitoring began four decades ago. The climate phenomenon is expected to reach “very strong” intensity later this year and is almost certain to persist through February. The WMO warns of increased risks of extreme heat, floods and drought, while its effects on global temperatures could extend into 2027.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has accused President William Ruto's administration of using the suspension of Tata Chemicals Limited's operations at Lake Magadi to advance alleged interests in lithium and oil resources in the area. The party warns the closure could affect more than 100,000 livelihoods and disrupt soda ash supplies used in water treatment. Ruto has defended the decision, saying Tata Chemicals failed to deliver sufficient jobs and investment in Kajiado. The company's mining operations were suspended over alleged licensing and compliance issues, with a High Court petition scheduled for November 18, 2026.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has ruled out joining Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens (DCP) party, saying she will not align herself with political camps where leaders are allegedly denied platforms. Waiguru reaffirmed her support for President William Ruto and said her political position remains unchanged. Her remarks come amid growing political realignments and speculation over potential running mates ahead of the 2027 General Election.
