The murder trial of socialite Starlet Wahu took a significant turn on Thursday, October 2, 2025, as a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer presented detailed evidence from the crime scene.

Police Constable Allan Njoka, a scene-of-crime officer attached to the DCI in Dagoretti, Nairobi County, testified before Milimani High Court Judge Alexander Muteti in the case against John Matara, who is accused of killing Wahu on January 3, 2024, at Papino Apartments in the South B area of Nairobi. Matara has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Evidence Presented

Njoka told the court he recovered several items from the apartment, including:

  • A used condom sachet and condom
  • A knife suspected to be the murder weapon
  • A handbag and passport bearing Wahu’s name
  • HIV test kits
  • Various personal effects

He also submitted 21 photographs taken at the scene, which documented critical details such as:

  • The layout of the Papino Apartments and stairways leading to rooms Y27 and Y32
  • Bloodstains in both the sitting room and bedroom
  • Close-up images of the deceased showing injuries on her forehead, left ear, left hand, and right thigh
  • The blood-stained knife hidden behind a sofa

Njoka further testified that he collected and handed over blood samples and other recovered items to the lead investigative officer handling the case.

Case Background

The trial stems from the brutal killing of Wahu, whose body was discovered inside the South B apartment earlier this year. The case has drawn widespread public attention given Wahu’s public profile and the nature of the crime.

As the hearing continues, the court will weigh forensic evidence, eyewitness accounts, and testimonies to determine whether Matara is guilty of the murder charges.

The trial resumes in the coming weeks, with more witnesses expected to testify.
