Han Zheng, the vice president of the People’s Republic of China, is scheduled to visit Kenya from March 22 to March 30, 2026, as part of a broader African tour that will also include Seychelles and South Africa.
The visit to Kenya comes at the invitation of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, while South Africa’s Deputy President Paul Mashatile and Seychelles Vice President Sebastien Pillay have also extended invitations to VP Zheng.
Strengthening China-Africa Relations
The African tour is part of China’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to deepen ties with multiple African nations. At the 39th African Union Summit held in February 2026, Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to collaborate with African countries amid the AU’s rising international prominence.
President Xi announced that starting May 1, 2026, China will implement zero-tariff treatment for 53 African countries maintaining diplomatic relations with China. The initiative aims to further facilitate trade, expand access for African exports, and support economic partnership agreements designed for shared development.
Additionally, China plans to enhance its “green channel” and other measures to promote smoother trade, creating new opportunities for Africa’s economic growth while strengthening Sino-African cooperation in pursuit of modernization and sustainable development.
VP Han Zheng’s visit is expected to include high-level meetings, discussions on trade, investment, and development projects, as well as initiatives to reinforce political and cultural ties between China and the host nations.
The tour underscores China’s strategic emphasis on Africa as a key partner in global diplomacy, trade, and sustainable development initiatives.
