Retired Kenyan middle-distance star Daniel Komen has broken his silence on a high-profile land dispute with his wife, Dr. Joyce Kimosop Komen, a senior lecturer at Moi University. The disagreement stems from Komen’s decision to sell their matrimonial property — a 220-acre prime agricultural parcel in the southeast of Eldoret municipality, Uasin Gishu County — valued at over Ksh. 100 million.

The land was sold to notable buyers, including double Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge, Olympic steeplechase gold medalist Brimin Kipruto, and cereal farmer Peter Sang.

Testifying in court, Komen explained that he did not seek his wife’s consent because he considers himself the sole legal owner of the land. He told the court that he bought the property more than two decades ago using earnings from his international running career and a bank loan.

While acknowledging Dr. Kimosop as his wife, Komen argued that she had no legal grounds to block or challenge the sale. He also revealed attempts to settle the matter privately, but said his wife chose to proceed with a full court trial.

Komen defended Kipchoge, Kipruto, and Sang, dismissing claims they were “strangers” to the property and insisting they are legitimate purchasers.

The case continues to draw public interest due to Komen’s athletic legacy and the involvement of high-profile athletes in the contested transaction.
