Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has pledged his personal support to TikTok content creator Kaluma Boy, whose story of caring for his ailing father has sparked nationwide solidarity.

In a post on X on Monday, September 29, 2025, the legislator questioned why Kenyans were rallying behind his namesake while he himself was alive and able to help. “Then there is Kaluma Boy. Why is he being helped by all Kenyans when I am alive and able? Come, my boy 💪,” he wrote.

Kaluma Boy went viral after sharing videos of his bedridden father, who suffered a stroke in August 2024 and spent three months in a coma before returning home. Since then, the young man has been juggling farm work and caregiving duties, describing the experience as both physically and financially draining. He has appealed for support to afford physiotherapy, which doctors say could aid recovery.

Nationwide Response
His story has struck a chord across the country, with TikTokers and social media users organising visits to his home in Othaya. Supporters arrived in large numbers — some in buses — to contribute toward his father’s treatment.

The outpouring has been praised as a powerful example of digital communities driving real-world impact. Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah lauded Kenyans for stepping up where state institutions had failed, criticising the government and the Social Health Authority for leaving families to struggle alone.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga also commended the role of young people and content creators in mobilising support. “Congratulations to the youth and TikTok creators for the massive turnout to support Kaluma Boy in Othaya today,” he said.

With MP Peter Kaluma now stepping in, the young caregiver is set to receive further assistance, underscoring how a personal story shared online has united Kenyans across generations and political divides.
