Pressure is mounting on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to take decisive action against a foreign national caught on camera verbally abusing and harassing police officers at Diani Police Station in Kwale County.

The incident, captured in a widely circulated video on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning (October 28–29, 2025), shows a visibly agitated Caucasian man confronting two uniformed officers at the reporting desk. In the footage, the man can be seen shouting, spitting, and displaying aggressive behavior toward a male officer.

According to police reports, the suspect was later detained over multiple offences, including assault, malicious damage to property, and causing a disturbance at a hotel where he had been staying.

The video has since sparked outrage among Kenyans, who are demanding that CS Murkomen and IG Kanja ensure accountability and justice for the officers subjected to the harassment.

Among the voices condemning the incident is Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid, who faulted the National Police Service (NPS) leadership for failing to protect its own.

“The National Police Service is always quick to act against Kenyans protesting for a better country, yet allows this kind of disrespect from a foreigner inside a police station?” Khalid questioned.

Preliminary reports indicate that the altercation stemmed from an earlier domestic dispute at a Diani hotel, where the suspect allegedly assaulted his girlfriend. The woman was rescued by hotel staff and police officers before being taken to hospital for treatment.

In the video, the man appearing intoxicated and dressed in shorts can be seen behaving erratically, hurling insults, and even expelling mucus toward an officer. Despite the provocation, the officers, a man and a woman, maintained calm and professionalism throughout the ordeal.

The situation escalated further when the suspect wiped his hands on an officer’s uniform and confronted another individual recording the incident outside the reception area.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing, with the suspect expected to face several charges once the inquiry is complete.
