Mombasa police have arrested two individuals in connection with the alleged robbery of a British national in Nyali, involving a loss of Ksh.800,000, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed.

According to the DCI, Samira Mumbi Kiarie had reportedly been communicating with the victim online for months, professing love and making promises of a long-term relationship. When the victim visited her apartment in Nyali, he was confronted by two men. One impersonated Samira’s husband, while the other posed as a police officer, presenting a fake ID.

The victim was accused of causing damage to the fake husband’s home and threatened with arrest. Under duress, he was forced to transfer Ksh.800,000 to phone numbers provided by the criminals. Following the transfer, the perpetrators escorted the victim out of the apartment and fled.

Investigations led to the arrest of Samira Kiarie and her accomplice, Paul Webster Mangeni. The DCI stated that the pair are believed to be part of a notorious syndicate that targets foreigners via dating platforms, lures them to Airbnbs, and robs them of their money.

Both suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment, while authorities continue the hunt for other members of the gang who remain at large.
