The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret has confirmed the receipt of six bodies following a tragic helicopter crash in Nandi County. Hospital officials reported that the remains were severely burnt and beyond recognition, underscoring the devastating impact of the accident.
Hospital Statement
Philip Kirwa, CEO of MTRH, addressed the press on Saturday, February 28, 2026, confirming the condition of the bodies. Speaking in Kiswahili, he said: “Leo tumepokea mili 6 ya ajali ya helicopter imetokezea huko Nandi.” Kirwa explained that the extent of the damage made it impossible for families or the public to view the remains at this stage.
He added: “So vile tumeangalia hizo mili, tungeomba mtuwie radhi kwa sababu hakuna kitu ya kuona, vile mwili imeharibika vibaya.” The hospital emphasized that both the fire and the crash contributed to the current state of the bodies.
Condition of the Remains
According to Kirwa, the bodies were burnt to the point where identification was not possible without further forensic work. “Mwili imechomeka, hata huwezi identify nani ni nani,” he explained, noting that the remains may only resemble human form after proper reconstruction and examination.
The hospital team confirmed that all six bodies had been received and arranged for handling with utmost care. Kirwa appealed for patience and understanding from the public, stressing that there was nothing to view in their current state.
Victims of the Crash
Among those on board was Ng’eno, who perished alongside five others when the helicopter went down at Chepkiep in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County. Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the cause of the crash and initiate identification procedures for the victims.
