A middle-aged man was shot dead on Wednesday night in Mamboleo area, Kisumu East sub-county, after suspected thugs on a motorbike opened fire during an attempted robbery at an M-Pesa outlet.
According to witnesses, the victim had gone to the outlet to make a deposit when the attackers struck. The suspects, reportedly targeting the outlet, fired several shots, hitting the man in the head and killing him instantly as nearby residents fled for safety.
The assailants then sped off towards the Miwani area, locals said.
Police officers later arrived at the scene, collected the body, and launched investigations into the shooting.
Rising Concerns Over Security
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in Kisumu, particularly around commercial hubs such as M-Pesa outlets, which have increasingly become targets for armed criminals. Residents have called for enhanced patrols and stricter measures to curb the rising cases of violent robberies.
