The inaugural edition of ACFTA Fest 2026 has concluded in Abuja, Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in Pan-African collaboration. The three-day festival brought together a dynamic mix of cultural showcases, entrepreneurial innovation, and sporting excellence, positioning itself as a pioneering platform for cross-sector engagement across the continent.

Conceived as a rotating annual event to be hosted by different African nations, ACFTA Fest aims to empower up to 1.5 million young people through initiatives centered on entrepreneurship, the creative arts, and sports. Organizers describe it as Africa’s first integrated festival of its kind bridging business, innovation, culture, and athletics into a unified experience.

At its core, the festival focused on unlocking the potential of Africa’s youth by transforming ideas into viable enterprises. Speaking at the event, Project Lead Engr. Mandi Anyangwe emphasized the need for structured support systems for young innovators.

“We have identified that many youths and students have brilliant ideas but lack the structural framework to bring them to life. ACFTA Fest is designed to bridge that gap,” she said. “Through initiatives like pitch competitions at the University of Abuja, we are demonstrating how students can commercialize their innovations.”

A key highlight of the festival was a high-level policy and business dialogue convened under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework. The forum brought together entrepreneurs, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to examine strategies for scaling startups across Africa’s 54 interconnected markets.

Dr. Mechie Nkengla, an AI and data executive, underscored the economic potential of continental integration.

“With 54 distinct markets, Africa has an incredible opportunity to drive economic growth, reduce poverty, and build accountability systems that lead to long-term success,” he noted.

Global speaker and trainer Frankie Powell echoed the sentiment, stressing the importance of unified innovation.

“If we are to achieve meaningful innovation, we need platforms that bring the entire continent together to drive transformation,” he said.

From a policy perspective, Dr. Ifeoma Ezike, Assistant Director of Monetary Policy at the Central Bank of Nigeria, highlighted the benefits of a coordinated continental approach.

“A unified system allows countries to pursue a shared objective developing Africa through trade, sports, culture, and innovation,” she stated.

With its successful debut, ACFTA Fest has established itself as a strategic platform for continental development. By integrating trade, talent, and creativity, the festival aims to catalyze Africa’s next phase of economic and social transformation.
