United FC, also known as Dubai United, has announced the appointment of legendary former Italy captain Andrea Pirlo as their new head coach. The club confirmed the news on Friday, unveiling a two-year contract with the iconic midfielder.
Pirlo, 46, brings a wealth of experience both on and off the pitch. Best known for his pivotal role in Italy’s 2006 World Cup victory and his storied playing career at AC Milan and Juventus, Pirlo transitioned to coaching in 2017. He has since managed Juventus, Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk, and most recently Sampdoria.
United FC competes in the UAE First Division League, the country’s second-tier football competition. The club’s leadership expressed high expectations for Pirlo’s impact.
“We are proud to welcome Andrea to the United FC family,” said club president Ilie Cebanu. “He embodies the values and ambitions of our club, and we believe he will be a key figure in taking us to the next level.”
With his technical expertise and international pedigree, Pirlo’s arrival is seen as a bold move as United FC aims to secure promotion to the UAE Pro League.
