A police constable stationed at Ngobit Police Station in Laikipia County has been arrested after being found in possession of stolen police uniforms, equipment, and exhibits belonging to fellow officers.

The suspect, PC Mohamud Adow, was apprehended following a search conducted at his residence by a team led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Gideon Kamitu and Deputy OCS Lilly Kambura. According to a police report, the operation yielded a significant cache of police-issued items believed to have been stolen.

Among the recovered items were:

  • 3 Angola shirts
  • 5 China blue sweaters
  • 2 jungle green sweaters
  • 3 China blue shirts
  • 4 jungle hats
  • 6 navy blue shirts
  • 3 navy blue trousers
  • 4 jungle trousers
  • 4 jungle jackets
  • 2 jungle T-shirts
  • 3 China blue raincoats
  • 1 navy blue raincoat
  • 1 police flag
  • 1 58-pattern band
  • 3 jungle belts
  • 3 navy blue police belts
  • 3 blue lanyards
  • 1 AK-47 pouch
  • 1 body armour
  • 1 exhibit claw hammer

Notably, several officers were able to positively identify some of their previously lost items among the recovered property.

All recovered items have since been secured in the station’s Quartermaster (QM) store as investigations continue. Disciplinary and possible criminal proceedings against the officer are expected to follow.

The incident raises serious concerns about internal accountability and the potential misuse of police gear, emphasizing the need for enhanced oversight within the service.
