CS Geoffrey Ruku Urges IEBC to Prepare for By-Elections and 2027 Polls

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to expedite preparations for upcoming by-elections and the 2027 General Elections. Speaking during a visit to Njoro, Nakuru County, the CS emphasized the importance of institutional readiness, calling on the commission to put all legal and logistical frameworks in place early.

Ruku underscored the urgency of the task, noting that Kenya’s democratic stability relies on timely and credible elections. He dismissed criticism from opposition leaders, accusing them of seeking power through undemocratic means and reminding them that electoral victory can only be pursued at the ballot box.

“The IEBC is now fully constituted, and we expect elections to be held on schedule,” said Ruku. “President Ruto is committed to fulfilling the promises made to Kenyans and earning their trust again in 2027.”

His visit also included overseeing the distribution of emergency relief to families in Tipis, Njoro, following a recent fire tragedy. Accompanied by local leaders, Ruku led the delivery of food, blankets, and essential supplies to the affected families. He reaffirmed the government’s support throughout the recovery process, highlighting the State Department for Special Programmes’ role in strengthening emergency response and resilience.

Ruku’s comments come just days after the swearing-in of a new IEBC team led by Chairperson Erastus Ethekon and Vice Chairperson Fahima Araphat Abdallah. The full commission includes Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, and Francis Odhiambo Aduol.

With Kenya entering a crucial electoral cycle, Ruku stressed that the new IEBC team must uphold constitutional timelines and ensure transparent and accountable processes that reflect the will of the people.
