DP Kindiki Defends Grassroots Economic Empowerment Initiatives as Key to Kenya Kwanza’s Transformation Agenda

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to economic empowerment as a cornerstone of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom‑Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Speaking in Molo on Saturday during a grassroots outreach tour, the Deputy President emphasized that the empowerment programmes—targeting the elderly, women, youth, and persons with disabilities—are designed to uplift vulnerable communities and stimulate inclusive development from the grassroots.

At the event, where he joined local leaders in distributing over 50 motorcycles to boda boda riders, Kindiki called on citizens to disregard critics of the initiative, stating that real change requires bold, people-centered interventions.

“A majority of Kenyans are farmers, which is why we reduced the cost of a 50kg bag of fertilizer from Sh7,000 to Sh2,500,” Kindiki noted, adding that further subsidies are being considered to enhance agricultural productivity—central to food security and national growth.

He also spotlighted several government-led job creation efforts targeting youth, including the Kazi Mtaani, Kazi Majuu, climate action programs, affordable housing projects, and the development of local markets.

Kindiki was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Nakuru Woman Representative Liza Chelule, and MPs David Gikaria and Joseph Tonui. The DP is expected to continue his grassroots engagements in Kabarnet, Baringo County, and Nakuru Town East.

These efforts underscore the administration’s broader goal to foster sustainable development through community-based economic interventions.
