Former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer Patrick Osoi was arraigned at the Kahawa Law Courts on Wednesday, a day after his arrest for allegedly forming a movement aimed at fighting police brutality.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Osoi, alongside two police officers—Jackson Kuria Kimani (alias Cop Shakur) and Kimathi Hiram—founded the group Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI), allegedly seeking to recruit serving and retired officers to resist “illegal orders.”
Osoi’s viral post on X garnered over 260,000 views, sparking concerns that it could mobilize masses, including hostile actors, into unlawful activities. The DCI noted that Osoi also declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2027 under the movement.
A U.S. Army veteran and self-proclaimed former National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer, Osoi is accused of concealing a secret residence suspected to hold incriminating evidence. Investigators have sought a warrant to search his premises for firearms and requested his detention at Muthaiga Police Station for 14 days.
Osoi faces potential charges including preparing to commit a felony, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and terrorism-related recruitment and facilitation offences.
“The offence is serious and carries a severe penalty. The custodial orders are necessary to allow investigators sufficient time to conclude their work,” read a DCI notice.
