Kenya’s most decorated football club, Gor Mahia FC, has attracted significant global attention following the recent announcement of vacancies in its technical bench. A total of 148 coaches have formally applied for the coveted head coach position, reflecting the stature and appeal of the 20-time Kenyan champions.
According to the club’s Secretary General, Nick Arum, the application window, which closed on Thursday, July 10, 2025, saw a staggering 539 submissions across eight key roles: head coach, assistant coach, team manager, team doctor, physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach, goalkeeper coach, and Chief Executive Officer.
After an initial round of vetting, 311 applications were declared valid, with others disqualified due to missing qualifications, language barriers, or duplicate entries. Following a further review, 247 qualified applications will now move forward to the shortlisting phase.
“The evaluation process is already underway. We are working swiftly to finalize the shortlist and conduct interviews,” Arum told Citizen Digital. “Time is of the essence—we must begin our pre-season preparations in time without delay.”
The head coach role has garnered the most attention, with several European-based tacticians among the applicants, including two former Gor Mahia coaches. The pool also features three ex-AFC Leopards managers, each hoping for a return to the Kenyan football scene.
The assistant coach position drew 21 applications, and all other roles received robust interest. However, Arum noted that salary expectations will play a critical role in narrowing down candidates: “We will assess applications based on qualifications, suitability, and the club’s financial capabilities.”
As Gor Mahia continues to restructure—already parting ways with a section of its technical staff and five players—the club is expected to unveil its new technical team shortly. This will be key to ensuring a seamless transition and timely start to pre-season training as K’Ogalo eyes another successful campaign.
