ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has assured Kenyans that no personal or government data was compromised following a temporary outage affecting several government websites on the morning of Monday, November 17, 2025.

In an official statement, Kabogo confirmed that the disruption, which lasted several hours, did not result in any loss, alteration, or unauthorized access of sensitive information. He credited the Ministry’s IT teams for quickly containing the incident, restoring website functionality, and implementing enhanced security measures across affected platforms.

“The disruption affected website access only. No personal or government data was accessed, altered, or lost,” Kabogo noted, adding that all systems have now been fully restored.

Investigations traced the outage to unauthorized attempts to interfere with government digital infrastructure. Emergency response protocols were activated immediately, with specialized IT teams working around the clock to mitigate potential impacts. All critical online government services, including citizen-facing portals, are now operational.

Kabogo emphasized that the government has heavily invested in cybersecurity to safeguard essential digital services and urged the public to report any suspicious online activity.

“The government regrets any inconvenience caused and remains committed to providing secure, reliable, and transparent access to digital services for all Kenyans,” he stated.

Earlier, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo condemned the incident, highlighting that it violated Kenyan law and international conventions, including the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, the Kenya Information and Communications Act, and the Data Protection Act.
