Isiolo MCAs Defend Legitimacy of Ksh 7 Billion Budget Amid Political Tensions

A section of Isiolo County Assembly Members (MCAs) has firmly dismissed claims that the approval of the Ksh 7 billion 2025–2026 county budget was irregular. Led by Deputy Speaker David Lemantile (Oldonyiro Ward), the lawmakers termed the allegations as unfounded, misleading, and politically motivated.

Speaking at a press briefing, Lemantile asserted that the budget process followed all legal and procedural protocols, in full compliance with Section 222(1) of the County Assembly’s Standing Orders. He accused political opponents of spreading misinformation to disrupt peace and development initiatives in the county.

“Let no one mislead the people of Isiolo for their own selfish political gain. We must remain united and focused on service delivery,” Lemantile emphasized.

The defense comes in response to allegations by a rival group of MCAs allied to ousted Speaker Mohamed Roba Qoto, who claimed the budget was fraudulently passed by allies of Governor Abdi Guyo.

Budget and Appropriations Committee Vice Chairperson Rehema Abdikadir echoed Lemantile’s sentiments, assuring the public that the budget process was transparent and lawful. Nominated MCA Francis Letimalo also confirmed that the budget was passed by nine MCAs—surpassing the required quorum of six—and that all necessary legal thresholds were met.

Meanwhile, Majority Leader Abdirashid Ali (Garbatula Ward) raised concerns over security at the County Assembly, alleging that individuals armed with crude weapons were controlling access to the chambers. He urged law enforcement to restore order and safeguard democratic processes.

The budget controversy adds to the county’s political turmoil, which intensified following a failed attempt to impeach Governor Guyo. Despite the wrangles, pro-Guyo MCAs reaffirmed their dedication to delivering services and maintaining stability across Isiolo County.
