Isiolo Political Shake-up: UDM Expels Two MCAs Amid Leadership Changes

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has expelled two nominated Members of the Isiolo County Assembly—Fozia Jibril and Amina Omar—citing gross misconduct, failure to honor party summons, and non-compliance with party financial obligations.

Speaker Mohammed Roba confirmed receipt of the expulsion letter dated July 14, 2025, and announced the immediate implementation of the directive in accordance with legal and procedural guidelines. According to the party, Fozia Jibril failed to appear before the disciplinary committee and ignored a Ksh.500,000 fine, leading to her removal under the 2024 UDM Disciplinary Committee Rules.

The expelled MCAs were among five who recently met with Governor Abdi Guyo following a failed impeachment effort, adding to speculation about political realignments within the county.

In related developments, leadership shifts within the County Assembly saw Francisco Letimalo (KANU) de-whipped as Minority Leader, replaced by Cherab Ward MCA Halima Agbudo. Deputy Speaker David Lemantile (Oldonyiro Ward, KANU) was also removed from the House Business Rules and Privileges Committee, with Wabera Ward MCA Salesio Kiambi taking his place.

The restructured committee now includes:

  • Speaker Mohamed Roba Koto – Chairperson
  • Abubakar Abdi Godana – Leader of Majority Party
  • Halima Golle Agbudo – Leader of Minority Party
  • Nicholas Lorot – Member
  • Salesio Kiambi – Member

Meanwhile, the County Assembly has been adjourned until July 29, 2025, to allow urgent renovations of the chambers, which were damaged during an invasion by unidentified individuals on June 26.

The unfolding events underscore heightened political tensions and realignments within Isiolo’s county leadership, setting the stage for a politically charged second half of 2025.
