JSC Receives Over 2,600 Applications in Major Judicial Recruitment Drive

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced that it has received a total of 2,679 applications for various judicial positions, marking a significant step in efforts to strengthen the Judiciary’s capacity and improve access to justice across Kenya.

In a press statement released by JSC Chairperson and Chief Justice Martha Koome, the Commission disclosed that 94 individuals have applied for 15 vacancies at the Court of Appeal, while 376 candidates are eyeing 20 positions in the High Court. The Environment and Land Court attracted 242 applications for 10 slots, while 1,714 applicants are competing for 100 magistrate positions. Additionally, 253 individuals applied for 5 Kadhi posts.

Chief Justice Koome emphasized that the large-scale recruitment is a strategic initiative designed to bolster the Judiciary’s human resource base in response to an increase in caseloads and to elevate service delivery nationwide.

“The Commission has embarked on a major recruitment drive aimed at strengthening the Judiciary’s capacity to enhance access to justice for all Kenyans,” said Koome.

She assured the public that the selection process will be guided by constitutional principles, highlighting JSC’s unwavering commitment to meritocracy, transparency, fairness, and integrity.

The Commission also addressed the ongoing digitization of the Judiciary, citing the rollout of e-filing systems as a milestone in judicial reforms. However, the CJ acknowledged that recent technical outages have disrupted services in some areas. She noted that the Judiciary’s Business Continuity Policy has been activated, with alternative systems now in place to ensure uninterrupted operations.

The JSC reaffirmed its dedication to delivering justice efficiently and called on the public to maintain confidence in the integrity and effectiveness of ongoing judicial reforms.
