Kenya and Uganda Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Eight Strategic MoUs

President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to deepening its bilateral relationship with Uganda following the signing of eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with President Yoweri Museveni at State House, Nairobi.

The agreements span key sectors including Mining, Transport, Quality Assurance, Agriculture, Fisheries, Urban Development, Tourism, and Trade, underscoring both nations’ shared vision for socio-economic growth.

President Ruto emphasized the need to dismantle persistent non-tariff barriers that hinder regional trade, pledging to enhance the transport corridor from Kenya to the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He revealed that the planned railway extension from Naivasha is set to commence by the end of 2025.

Additionally, the leaders agreed on the urban development of the greater Busia metro project (2025–2028), aimed at boosting infrastructure and cross-border market expansion.

Other key areas include joint mineral exploitation to curb smuggling, capacity building in the blue economy, strengthening agricultural resilience for food security, and enhancing tourism through cultural exchange and eco-tourism initiatives.

These agreements mark a significant step toward fostering regional integration, boosting trade, and unlocking economic opportunities for both nations.
