Kindiki and Murkomen Seek Details on LSK Complaint Over Protest Crackdown

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen have formally requested copies of a complaint filed against them with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which seeks to have them struck off the Roll of Advocates.

In a letter sent through their legal representative, Cecil Miller, the two leaders expressed concern over reports circulating on social media about the complaint and asked the LSK to furnish them with the official documents to allow for an appropriate legal response.

“We have been retained to represent the Deputy President H.E. Prof. Kithure Abraham Kindiki and Hon. Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen… Kindly provide us with copies of the complaint,” Miller’s letter reads in part.

The complaint in question was filed by Nairobi-based advocate Kepha Ojijo in June. Ojijo has accused the two senior officials of gross misconduct and breaching the Advocates’ Code of Conduct due to their alleged role in state-sanctioned violence during the 2024 and 2025 Gen Z-led demonstrations.

Ojijo’s petition claims that as top government officials overseeing the Interior and National Administration dockets, Kindiki and Murkomen were responsible for police operations that resulted in deaths, injuries, forced disappearances, and abductions of protesters.

The legal battle is shaping up to be a significant test of professional accountability for lawyers holding high public office, particularly in matters involving human rights and the rule of law.
