Kindiki Warns Against Violence, Pledges Development in Mt. Kenya

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged leaders inciting violence in the Mt. Kenya region to desist, warning that such actions will not be tolerated. Speaking during a consultative meeting with Meru County leaders on Wednesday, the DP condemned the destruction and looting witnessed during recent protests, calling it “regrettable” and detrimental to hardworking business owners.

“We have never witnessed the kind of destruction we saw recently. Why have we stooped this low? Let us compete on policies and ideologies and allow the people to decide,” Kindiki stated. He assured residents that security agencies would not allow similar incidents in the future.

On development, the DP highlighted several ongoing projects, including the construction of 21 modern markets in Meru, among them the Sh800 million Gakoromone Market, set to be the largest fresh produce market in Kenya. He also announced Sh2.2 billion allocated for last-mile electricity expansion and the elevation of Meru Referral Hospital to Level 6, to be implemented by the Kenya Defence Forces.

Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s focus on infrastructure, electricity, healthcare, and economic growth, pledging visible results by 2027. He further encouraged residents to enroll in the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme to ensure comprehensive medical coverage for all.
