Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has strongly criticized ODM leader Raila Odinga’s recent proposal to form an intergenerational conclave, terming it a deceptive political maneuver designed to extend the current political elite’s relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in the aftermath of the Saba Saba protests, Kioni dismissed Odinga’s call for a national committee to address the country’s pressing issues as a “fresh con game,” warning Kenyans not to fall for it. The former Ndaragwa MP likened the proposed initiative to the now-defunct National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), which he argued had failed to deliver meaningful results for ordinary citizens.
“What is this intergenerational thing? Gen Zs are leading this movement. Why are older leaders trying to hijack it? It’s time to step aside,” Kioni asserted, emphasizing that young people have emerged as the true voice of the nation’s frustrations and aspirations.
In a bold accusation, Kioni alleged that the government had orchestrated violence during the Saba Saba protests by releasing prisoners and deploying them to opposition strongholds, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, to cause chaos and instill fear among protestors.
“What we saw was state-sponsored violence meant to intimidate and suppress dissent,” he claimed.
Kioni further warned that such tactics are part of a broader strategy to destabilize the political environment and distract from issue-based campaigns. He urged opposition leaders to remain united and focused if they hope to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections.
“They know Kenyans have rejected them. Their only option now is to create crisis and confusion to avoid facing the electorate in a fair contest,” he said.
Kioni’s remarks underscore growing divisions within the opposition on how best to engage with the current administration, as tensions continue to rise amid public discontent and mounting political unrest.
