In a coordinated effort to combat drug trafficking, a multi-agency security team comprising officers from Archers Post Police Station, the National Police Reservists (NPR), and rangers from the Samburu National Reserve successfully intercepted narcotics worth approximately Kshs. 1.88 million.
Acting on a tip-off from vigilant members of the public, authorities tracked a suspicious white Toyota Probox spotted near the Waso Nyiro River. Witnesses reported armed individuals unloading luggage from the vehicle. Upon arrival, the security team encountered resistance, prompting a brief exchange of gunfire. The suspects, however, fled into the surrounding bush.
A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of two green sacks containing multiple bundles wrapped in cello tape, suspected to be cannabis sativa. The recovered drugs weighed approximately 62.65 kilograms and are currently secured as evidence pending further investigation.
The National Police Service (NPS) has called on the public to assist in locating the fleeing suspects and commended the community for their vigilance.
This successful operation is part of a broader national crackdown on drug-related crimes, which has recently seen arrests and drug seizures in Kilifi and Nairobi.
