No Match-Day Ticket Sales for CHAN 2024, LOC Confirms in Bid to Boost Security

In a significant move to enhance crowd control and ensure safety during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chair Nicholas Musonye has announced that no tickets will be sold on match days.

Speaking before the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Sports, Musonye stressed the importance of early planning by fans, particularly for matches involving Kenya’s Harambee Stars.

“There will be no ticket sale on the day of the match. If Kenya is playing on the 3rd, there will be no ticket sales on that day,” said Musonye. “This will help people to prepare in advance and reduce confusion at the gates.”

Drawing from past experiences, Musonye noted that last-minute ticket purchases often lead to overcrowding and pose serious security risks—especially when the national team plays at home after extended periods without hosting international games.

“We’ve learnt from the past. The crowd is always eager to watch Harambee Stars play at home, and if we leave ticketing until match day, it creates unnecessary congestion at the venue,” he added.

To further reassure the public, Musonye confirmed that the LOC, in partnership with national security agencies, holds daily security briefings to monitor and mitigate any emerging threats.

“Security is a top priority, and we are committed to delivering a safe and successful CHAN tournament,” he affirmed.

All of Kenya’s group stage matches will take place at Kasarani Stadium, with Nyayo Stadium serving as an alternate venue.

Fans are therefore urged to purchase their tickets early and stay updated through official communication channels to ensure a smooth experience throughout the tournament.
