Parents Halt Construction of Police Post at Upper Sagana Primary School Over Safety and Consultation Concerns

Business at Upper Sagana Primary School was brought to a standstill this week after concerned parents staged a protest against the construction of a police post within the school compound. The project, initiated by the Ndia Constituency NGCDF, was halted as agitated parents demanded transparency and consultation.

Led by PTA Chairman Jeremiah Gikunju, the parents voiced strong opposition, citing a lack of engagement from authorities before the project commenced. Construction workers were asked to vacate the premises until the community is fully informed about the intentions and implications of the development.

The parents expressed concern that the presence of armed officers on school grounds, especially in light of recent “shoot to kill” directives issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, would instill fear among students and create an unsafe learning environment.

In response, Ndia MP George Kariuki clarified that the structure in question is not a full police station but a police post intended to enhance security for the school’s ICT center, which has faced repeated vandalism. Kariuki criticized the backlash, blaming local political interference for misleading the public and undermining what he described as a “noble initiative.”

Parents have called on the Ministry of Education to step in and ensure that all stakeholders — especially school board members — are adequately consulted before any further development proceeds.
