In a significant reshuffle within the National Assembly, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been removed from the powerful Budget and Appropriations Committee. He has now been reassigned to the less influential Committee on Diaspora and Immigrant Workers. Nyoro’s replacement is Mathioya MP Edwin Gichuki, who formerly served on the Committee on Tourism and Wildlife.
This shake-up is the latest in a series of changes critics claim are aimed at sidelining MPs perceived to be aligned with opposition factions. The move comes just months after Nyoro, along with four other committee chairpersons, was de-whipped in March 2025 following former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment. Nyoro, once considered a government insider, has since emerged as a vocal critic of current policies.
Other notable changes include:
- Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina’s transfer from the Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity to the Powers and Privileges Committee.
- Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Atieno Bensuda joining the Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation, replacing the late Charles Ong’ondo Were.
- Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku’s position at the Public Accounts Committee now filled by Teso South MP Mary Emaase. Emaase’s former post on the Departmental Committee on Regional Development will be taken over by Nakuru Woman Representative Liza Chepkorir.
- Taveta MP John Bwire has been appointed to the Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, succeeding Ruku.
The developments highlight ongoing political realignments within the legislature, as internal party dynamics continue to reshape leadership and influence in Parliament.
