In two separate operations aimed at curbing crime and drug-related activities in Kilifi County, police have made significant arrests, thanks to tip-offs from vigilant members of the public.
In the first incident, officers from Kilifi Sub-County launched a swift operation in the Kibaoni area after receiving a report about suspicious activity. The suspect was apprehended during an ambush and found in possession of 11 sachets of a substance believed to be heroin, along with Ksh 800 suspected to be proceeds from the illicit trade. The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently held at the Kilifi Police Station pending formal charges, while the confiscated items are secured as evidence.
In a related operation, officers from Mtwapa conducted a raid near Bemu Guest House targeting a criminal gang. One suspect was arrested, while others remain at large as police continue to pursue leads. A search of the suspect revealed a backpack containing three allegedly stolen smartphones, seven and a half rolls of what is suspected to be cannabis, a kitchen knife, and a taser. The arrested gang member is in custody, and the recovered items are being held as evidence.
The National Police Service (NPS) has expressed gratitude to members of the public for their support and cooperation, acknowledging the vital role community intelligence plays in crime prevention.
“These operations underscore the commitment of law enforcement to tackling drug trafficking and gang activity, which continue to pose serious threats to the safety and well-being of communities in Kilifi and across the Coast region,” said the NPS in a statement posted on X.
These developments come amid growing concern among Coastal residents over the rise in crime and drug abuse, particularly among the youth. The community has called for continued collaboration between law enforcement and the public to safeguard the region’s future.
