Powerful Earthquake Triggers Tsunami Warnings Across Pacific

A powerful earthquake, recorded at a depth of 18.2 kilometres, has triggered tsunami waves and widespread alerts across the Pacific region. The quake generated waves of up to four metres along Russia’s Kamchatka coast, where several injuries were reported.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued warnings for waves up to three metres along Hokkaido and Honshu, with Iwate prefecture recording waves of 1.3 metres. Evacuation orders were issued for 1.9 million residents, while advisories extended to Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa.

Tsunami alerts were also activated for Hawaii, Alaska, parts of the US west coast, and as far south as New Zealand, as authorities monitored potential impacts across the Pacific basin.
