Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has openly questioned the political clout of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, claiming his influence in Western Kenya has been overstated.

Speaking to the press on Monday, November 10, 2025, Khalwale dismissed suggestions that Mudavadi commands firm control in the region, arguing that the former vice president has failed to demonstrate real political strength or deliver tangible results.

“Mudavadi should not think I am easy to manipulate or as cheap as he is,” Khalwale stated during the media briefing. “He had a political party ANC but abandoned his people and left them in confusion,” he added, accusing Mudavadi of neglecting his party’s grassroots supporters.

Khalwale recalled past political moments when he and other leaders successfully countered Mudavadi’s influence, citing the 2002 elections as an example. “If Mudavadi truly has power over Kakamega politics, why did we manage to remove him from the vice presidency back in 2002 with Wamalwa?” he posed.

Questions Over 2022 Performance

The Kakamega senator also challenged Mudavadi’s track record in the 2022 general election, claiming the Prime Cabinet Secretary failed to deliver key seats despite fielding his own candidates. “If you are strong, how did your candidate in Vihiga County finish fourth?” Khalwale asked, underscoring what he termed as clear evidence of waning influence.

Khalwale maintained that true political power is reflected in electoral performance rather than reputation or titles, stressing that leadership must be earned through action and consistent engagement with the people.

His remarks signal growing political friction in Western Kenya, as both leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
