Three Arrested Over Magunas Supermarket Arson During Saba Saba Protests

In the aftermath of the violent Saba Saba protests that rocked parts of the country on July 7, 2025, law enforcement agencies have made significant progress in tracking down those responsible for the destruction and looting of property.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of three suspects—Ian Mugambi, Abdulatif Murithi, and Teddy Kaimenyi—in connection with the arson attack on Magunas Supermarket. The trio was positively identified through CCTV footage showing them looting and setting the supermarket ablaze.

In addition to Magunas Supermarket, the suspects were also caught on camera vandalizing and looting Seven Eleven Lounge and Selelite Supermarket, indicating a coordinated spree of destruction during the protests.

During the arrest operation, police recovered a dark green motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects during the crimes. The three individuals are currently in police custody and are set to be arraigned in court.

Meanwhile, the DCI has launched a manhunt for additional suspects believed to have been involved in the attacks. Authorities have urged members of the public to report any information that could lead to further arrests.

The July 7 demonstrations, originally meant to voice political grievances, turned violent in several areas, with multiple reports of looting, vandalism, and property damage. The arrest of these suspects marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation and a clear warning to those who exploit public protests for criminal gain.
