Residents of Buruburu Estate in Manyani, Kivumbini Ward, Nakuru Town East Sub-County, were left in shock following a heartbreaking incident on Monday evening. Denis Michael Nthenge, a local resident, is reported to have taken the life of his 4-year-old son before ending his own.
According to Nakuru Town East Police Commander Samson Adanje, preliminary investigations suggest that Nthenge forced the young boy, who was in PP1, to ingest poison. He then took his own life by hanging himself in their home later that night.
Witnesses stated that Nthenge had picked up his son from school around 4 p.m., just hours before the tragedy unfolded. Neighbors also noted that the man had been experiencing ongoing domestic problems, particularly after his wife recently left for her parents’ home in Machanga.
Police recovered a handwritten note left by Nthenge, in which he expressed suspicions of infidelity involving his wife — a factor that may have contributed to his tragic actions.
Authorities have launched further investigations into the matter as the community grapples with the emotional toll of this devastating event. The incident highlights the urgent need for mental health awareness and accessible support services, especially during times of family crisis.
