Wetang’ula Rallies Luhya Community to Support President Ruto’s 2027 Re-Election for Strategic 2032 Bid

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on the Luhya community to unite behind President William Ruto’s re-election campaign in 2027, asserting that this support would position the region favorably for a potential presidential bid in 2032.

Speaking at the second anniversary of the Western Women Congress held at Busibwabo Secondary School in Busia County, Wetang’ula highlighted the Luhya community’s numerical strength as a key asset in national politics. He urged unity and strategic support for President Ruto, noting that it could pave the way for the region to produce the next Head of State.

“The Luhya Community stands a better chance of succeeding President Dr William Ruto in 2032 if we support him now,” Wetang’ula said.

He cited Ruto’s goodwill towards Western Kenya, including the appointment of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and other regional leaders to senior government roles, as a testament to the President’s inclusive leadership. Wetang’ula also credited Ruto’s support in his own election as Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Speaker praised the recent political rapprochement between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the government, commending ODM leader Raila Odinga for prioritising national unity over personal ambition. He urged other opposition leaders to give President Ruto space to implement his agenda and condemned efforts to destabilize the administration through incitement.

Highlighting the government’s efforts towards food security through subsidised farm inputs, Wetang’ula called on the Western Women Congress to evolve into an economic empowerment platform. He encouraged the group to develop a structured economic blueprint to promote financial independence among its members.

Accompanying women leaders, including Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi and Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, echoed Wetang’ula’s sentiments, urging women across the country to support President Ruto, citing his continued commitment to uplifting women’s livelihoods.
