Siaya County, Kenya – Detectives in Siaya County are investigating a murder case in Ugunja, following the arrest of two suspects allegedly attempting to dispose of a body along the busy Busia–Kisumu Highway.
Police reports indicate that local residents intercepted the suspects near the Savannah area as they tried to dump the body of an unidentified man. A crowd quickly gathered at the scene, confronting the suspects and attempting mob justice before police from Ugunja Police Station intervened.
“The locals confronted the suspects, and the situation escalated before our officers arrived to rescue them,” a police report stated.
The suspects, Joseph Omondi and Calisto Oyugi, sustained injuries during the incident and were subsequently treated at Ambira Sub-County Hospital before being discharged. Both are currently held in custody at Ugunja Police Station as investigations continue.
“We are actively investigating the case to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the identity of the deceased,” confirmed a police spokesperson.
Authorities have urged the public to allow law enforcement to carry out their duties and avoid taking the law into their own hands. The investigation is ongoing, with police seeking additional information from witnesses to aid in solving the case.
