Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i on Tuesday met privately with a section of Jubilee Party leaders in Nairobi, sparking speculation about his political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The meeting, held just days before the Jubilee National Delegates Conference (NDC), is being interpreted as Matiang’i’s clearest signal yet of a possible comeback under the Jubilee Party, which remains closely associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Matiang’i, who served in Uhuru’s Cabinet for a decade across the education, ICT, and interior ministries, has in recent months embarked on a nationwide popularization tour as he works to consolidate his political base.
Although neither Matiang’i nor the Jubilee officials disclosed the details of their discussions, insiders point to deliberations on party strategy, grassroots mobilization, and potential alliances as central to the talks.
Political observers say the move could reposition Jubilee as a key player in upcoming realignments while offering Matiang’i a platform to mount a credible challenge in 2027.
