In an inspiring act of unity and compassion, Kenyans have raised Ksh2 million to support the mother of Kaluma Boy, a 17-year-old TikTok sensation whose emotional video featuring his ailing father recently touched millions across the country.

During a Sunday service on October 5, 2025, at Jesus Compassion Ministries (JCM), the church’s head pastor Bishop Ben Kiengei announced that within just 30 minutes, Kenyans of goodwill—including congregants and online supporters—had contributed the impressive sum.

“We have raised for her shop two million shillings within 30 minutes,” Kiengei declared, adding that the funds would establish a fully stocked shop named ‘Kaluma’s Boy Enterprise’ for the mother in their Othaya hometown.

The initiative aims to help Kaluma’s family achieve financial independence and stability after their struggles gained nationwide attention.

A Gesture of Hope

Bishop Kiengei described the donations not merely as financial aid but as a symbol of hope and national compassion.

“This is not just about money; it’s about giving a family hope. Kaluma Boy reminded us of the joy we can find even in tough times. Now it is our turn to bring joy to his home,” he said.

Kaluma Boy Earns Full Scholarship

In another uplifting development, Kaluma Boy has been awarded a full university scholarship at the East African University, where he will study Sales and Marketing with a focus on digital marketing.

The scholarship, facilitated through Bishop Kiengei’s church, was confirmed by Dr. Christopher Mutembei, Vice Chancellor of the institution.

“Kaluma Boy will undertake a course in Sales and Marketing to enhance his digital marketing skills,” Kiengei announced.

The bishop clarified that the church had only facilitated the donations and scholarship but had no direct control over the contributed funds, which will go entirely to the family’s welfare.

Kaluma Boy’s story is a reminder of how social media can unite a nation around empathy and purpose — transforming an emotional moment into a life-changing opportunity for a young man and his family.
