Kenya’s leading retail chain, Naivas Supermarkets, has announced a major leadership transition that will see Andreas von Paleske take over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from David Kimani, effective November 1.
Von Paleske, who currently serves as Chief of Strategy, has been part of Naivas for eight years and has played a key role in shaping the retailer’s expansion and growth strategy. His leadership, alongside Kimani’s, has helped Naivas grow to over 100 stores, solidifying its position as Kenya’s largest retail chain by both financial performance and branch network.
Outgoing CEO David Kimani, a founding member of Naivas, is stepping down after years of steering the company to unprecedented success. His exit coincides with Naivas’ 35th anniversary, a milestone he described as the perfect moment to hand over the reins.
“Having achieved several landmark milestones in the past few years, and with a strong leadership team in place, I could not think of a better opportunity than our 35th anniversary to pass on the baton to Andreas,” Kimani said in a statement.
Despite stepping down, Kimani will remain actively involved in the business alongside Peter, Charles, and the Mukuha family, ensuring continued family participation in the company’s strategic direction.
Naivas International Chairman Arnaud Lagesse lauded Kimani’s contributions, calling him a central figure in building one of Kenya’s most remarkable corporate success stories.
“David’s role in laying the foundations of one of Kenya’s corporate success stories is truly commendable. With Andreas, we have the right leader to take the business to even greater heights,” Lagesse stated.
The leadership change marks the beginning of Naivas’ next phase of growth, as the retailer continues to strengthen its footprint both locally and regionally.
