A Maua Court has sentenced Alex Mugambi to 10 years in prison after finding him guilty of attempted murder, following a brutal attack that left the victim with severe injuries.
According to a statement from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) issued on Tuesday, Mugambi was convicted of attempting to murder Joseph Mwamba on May 10, 2023, in Igembe South Sub-County, Meru County, contrary to Section 220(a) of the Penal Code.
“Mugambi was found guilty of attempting to murder Joseph Mwamba on May 10, 2023, in Igembe South Sub-County, Meru County, contrary to Section 220(a) of the Penal Code,” the ODPP confirmed.
During the trial, prosecutor Kelvin Gitonga presented six witnesses, who testified that Mugambi attacked Mwamba with a panga, inflicting deep neck and shoulder wounds and severing his right wrist.
Delivering the judgment, Magistrate Muchiri ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven its case beyond reasonable doubt and subsequently sentenced Mugambi to 10 years imprisonment.
The ruling underscores the judiciary’s continued efforts to enforce justice and deter violent crimes within Meru County and across Kenya.
