Mama Margaret Nyokabi, widow of the late Nyeri County Governor Nderitu Gachagua, accompanied by her daughter Mercy, visited the home of the late Raila Odinga at Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County, to offer condolences to the Odinga family.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) confirmed the visit, expressing appreciation for the gesture of solidarity.
“Widow of the 1st Governor of Nyeri County, the late Hon. Nderitu Gachagua, Mama Margaret Nyokabi, and her daughter, Mercy, were at Opoda farm in Bondo today to give condolences to Mama Ida Odinga and family following the passing of Baba Raila Odinga on the 15th of this month,” the party announced.
During her visit to Opoda Farm, where the late opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was laid to rest, Mama Nyokabi paid tribute to his enduring legacy, describing him as a champion of democracy and a man who made immense sacrifices for Kenya’s progress.
Her visit comes just a week after the ODM Party leadership publicly declared that it would not engage with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the late Nderitu Gachagua’s brother, underscoring the complex political dynamics surrounding the Odinga and Gachagua families.
Despite the political undercurrents, Mama Nyokabi’s visit was seen as a gesture of respect and unity, transcending political affiliations in honour of a national figure whose influence shaped Kenya’s political landscape for decades.
