Senegal’s oil production in 2025 surpassed expectations, reaching 36.1 million barrels, the Ministry of Energy, Oil and Mines reported on Wednesday.
Initial forecasts for the year projected 30.53 million barrels, which had been revised upward to 34.7 million barrels by June. Authorities credited the higher output to “the good response of the reservoirs, the good maintenance of wells, and the robustness of operational performance.”
The country’s oil comes primarily from the Sangomar offshore oil and gas field, situated 100 kilometres off Dakar. The field is operated by Australian energy company Woodside Energy, which began managing the site in 2024.
According to the ministry, three shipments of crude oil from Sangomar were sold internationally in December alone, totaling 2.94 million barrels.
Senegal also reported strong performance in liquefied natural gas (LNG) production. December 2025 marked the highest monthly output for LNG, with exports reaching 0.5 million cubic metres.
The robust production underscores Senegal’s growing role as an emerging energy exporter in West Africa and highlights the operational success of its offshore oil and gas ventures.
