The High Court has temporarily halted the plea-taking of Dr. Jane Njeri Kamau, who faces charges of improper diagnosis and administering medication without due care.
Last week, Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Theresa Nyangena issued a warrant of arrest after Dr. Njeri failed to appear in court to answer allegations of negligence and causing harm to a patient.
Dr. Njeri was expected to plead to charges stemming from an incident on March 1, 2025, in which she is accused of unlawfully administering a drug without proper diagnosis or professional diligence, resulting in harm to a patient. She also faces a second count of selling unregistered drugs in violation of regulations by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
The prosecution had requested the magistrate’s court to issue the arrest warrant following Dr. Njeri’s absence from court on Thursday. However, during the subsequent hearing, it was revealed that the doctor had obtained a High Court order temporarily stopping her prosecution.
The case will now await further directions from the High Court regarding the continuation of proceedings. Authorities and the public are expected to monitor the developments closely as the legal process unfolds.
